British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course 2

Foundation Course 2 is for students who have completed Foundation Course 1 and would like to continue to broaden their depth of yoga knowledge, without training to be a yoga teacher. The course content includes more asana and pranayama, as well as meditation, chanting, prana, nadis, kosas (pancamaya), mudras, bandhas, kriyas and an in-depth study of Chapter 1 of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.  The course also includes approaches to planning personal practices to meet individual needs.

Subjects covered on the course include: 
  • How to build upon your personal home practice
  • Sequencing Asana
  • Anatomy of Asana
  • Mudras
  • Bhandas
  • Prana Vayus and Maya Koshas
  • Pranayama - including the use of ratios and Kumbaka 
  • Meditation - to be included in home practice
  • Chanting
  • Relaxation, including Yoga Nidra
  • Philosophy - recap on Yoga Sutras 
  • Philosophy - in-depth study of Yoga Sutras Chapter 1 *There will be a short written assignment on this.
  • Kriyas - including Jala Neti and recap of FC1

Course Location

Islington Arts Factory is a lovely Community Arts Centre. This grade 2 converted church building has many of its original features and although it is old it has great character and charm. The large studio space has a beautiful high ceiling. We are fully equipped with mats, blocks, blankets, bolsters and belts. There is a cafe area where tea and biscuits will be available during the breaks. 

Islington Arts Factory is on the Parkhurst Road/Camden Road one-way system.
Tube: The nearest tube is Caledonian Road (one stop after Kings Cross) on the Piccadilly Line and a short walk.
​Bus: You can also get a short bus (5-10 minutes) on 29 or 253 from Warren Street, Euston or Finsbury Park, on the Victoria Line or from Camden on Northern Line. 
Other buses that stop outside are: 4, 17, 29, 43, 91, 153, 253, 259, 271, 279, 359

Course Dates

Dates: Please register your interest in using the form below. Next dates TBC
There will be 1-2 sessions each month, Saturdays 1.30-8.30pm 
You must attend 80% of the course to receive the BWY Foundation Course 2 Certificate.

Course Fees

£600 plus £60 registation fee to BWY. On acceptance on to the course you will be asked to pay a non refundable deposit of £200 and £60 registration fee which will be passed on to BWY. You must also become a member of the BWY which you can do online. It is £37 for annual membership, here is the link: https://www.bwy.org.uk/join-the-bwy/ **Please note you must have this BWY membership before the start of the course in order to be officially registered on the course and to be able to receive your certificate on completion.

The remainder of the fee are to be paid one month before the start date. All course fees are non refundable and non transferable.

 Entry Requirements:
Completion of BWY Foundation Course 1 or the equivalent and an up to date BWY membership which is £37 for annual membership, this can be done online here: http://www.bwy.org.uk/join-the-bwy/

How to apply:
Please read all the info carefully then download and complete the application form and email to hana@mindfulmovements.co.uk .
We will reply within a few days to let you know if your application has been successful and continue with the registration from there. You will be contacted for a short telephone interview or be invited to join one of Hana's classes. 
​ We will also ask for a reference from your Foundation Course 1 Tutor.

Set Books

There are 2 books you will would probably already have from Foundation Course 1 which will come in handy in terms of recapping, The Heart of Yoga by TKV Desikachar and The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Swami Satchitananda. In addition to this you will need The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Alistar Shearer and The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bihar edition. If you have an interest in the Anatomy of Asana we recommend The Muscle Book by Paul Blakey.
